CHILDREN'S VISION & EYEWEAR
Children’s eyes are still developing and have unique visual needs compared to adults. An “adult” eye examination is therefore not sufficient in accurately evaluating a child’s vision. An assessment of how well their eyes are fixating, moving and working together is essential since good eye movements allow for good reading skills which in turn are vital in the development of healthy minds. Book an appointment for state of the art children’s vision care.

Vision-related learning problems share the same symptoms as countless learning disability diagnoses, including:
- Difficulty concentrating
- Rereading or skipping lines of print
- Letter reversals
- Difficulty recognizing
- words
- Short attention span
- Poor reading
- comprehension

- Slow completion of work
- Loss of interest in reading

Eyesight Vs Vision
Eyesight (the ability to receive input through the eye) is not the same as vision (the ability to understand what that input is).
Routine eye exams
It`s much harder to correct an eyesight problem the older a child is, so the earlier they have an eye examination, the better. Your child can have their first comprehensive eye examination at six months old. After this, they can have their next examination at the age of three and again just before starting primary school (five or six years old). Thereafter they should have an eye examination a minimum of every two years if their eyesight doesn`t require correction. If your child needs spectacles or contact lenses, they should have annual eye examinations or as frequently as recommended by your optometrist.
